Perhaps you haven't been following the news. It was the regulators that failed.
Well, not just the regulators. This was a fuck-up on all sides.
Yes, the regulators failed to regulate, hence giving BP a free market state. The managers pushed for faster production because the regulators didn't fucking regulate. It was, therefore, a de facto free market fuckup.
So...if regulators fail its a free market fuck up...you don't think that its an indication that the regulators failed? That it was pointless and wasteful spending to pay for these regulators?
The free market is not perfect. But, if regulators fail to regulate, doesn't that give credence to the argument that regulations do not work?
You cannot ignore that your supposed solution for such problems was in place here and did absolutely no good.
Sure I can. Mexico has some of the most progressive laws in the world, but they are not enforced. The Democrats, Republicans and their libetarian supporters allowed for this non-enforcement to occur.

Not only did those managers rush production and thus cause an environmental disaster, they also fled cowardly from the scene. Pathetic. BP executives should be jailed for what they did.
But don't worry, the environmental disaster that you support will only ravage the animals.

Part of the libertarian argument against regulations is that government cannot be trusted. That these regulations failed because of the regulators again provides credence that depending on the government to perform to protect us from all harm will only end up poorly, as per the oil rig disaster.

I don't disagree. If it can be proven they were knowingly negligent, than they should definitely be thrown in danger for the damage they have caused.

Individuals were controlling the oil rig. The regulations were there, but, as per normal, the government you depend on for complete protection, failed to do its job.

No, the Bush-era "regulators" were there along with the new neo-con Obama regulators. Christ, just a week before the disaster Obama was justifying drilling off the East Coast because "it is highly unlikely a disaster will happen". That rhetoric is anti-regulatory rhetoric.
Instead of the crappy democrats and republicans, we need some socialist and communist influence in government. We need politicians in office who will actually regulate.
And no, not "capitalism is not perfect", instead "capitalism must be regulated" because it a greedy-gut piece of shit that will drive down wages so far that the poverty of history will return.

Good luck. Politicians only do the minimum required to get re-elected. This is why depending on government will always result in regulatory failures like this oil spill. The free market will always result in disasters like this oil spill the same reason any crime occurs: humanity is not perfect.

You hoping for a government full of Bernie Sanders and Dennis Kucinich types is along the same lines of me hoping for a government full of Ron Paul types. It ain't gonna happen. The natural course is for those who lust for power to end up in powerful positions, and they will never serve the common good, only their own.

Yet again history is against you. History shows that there were politicians that DID enact Ron Paul type laws and history shows that there were politicians that passed Bernie Sanders type laws.
