Lord Monkey

Those who stole the emails that caused "Climategate" can't read. I thus dub it "Can'tReadGate".

At 4:10 it gets really interesting.

The first distortion mentioned: The quote mentioned, in regard to being unable to explain why temperatures are not increasing, still stands. Simply because the scientist who is quoted wrote a paper guessing as to reasons why temperatures are not increasing doesn't change the fact that temperatures are not increasing and the scientists DO NOT KNOW WHY.

The second distortion: If tree core temperatures are unreliable, why use them at all? If they can't explain why they do not correlate with actual temperatures now, maybe they didn't 500 years ago either when we don't have records of temperatures, which pretty much destroys the whole graph because tree rings were used to build the rest of it. http://wattsupwiththat.com/2009/12/04/jo-nova-finds-the-medieval-warm-period/

Not really. All it means is that is that something we are doing is fucking with them. Acid rain seems plausible. Besides, it doesn't matter. The data is not only based on tree cores (bore holes, corals, and stalagites) , but the "Climategate", "hide the decline", or "Can'treadsciencegate" is. What a crock of shit!

Welcome to science. But I tell you what! They sure do have a lot of evidence that Global Warming is happening, even though they might not know what exactly is causing the current cold snap.

Actually, i'm pretty sure I could have pulled those theories out of my ass when confronted with facts that doesn't match up with my beliefs, and the reality is, they have no idea why the tree cores don't line up, so they should be pulled from the rest of the data as well.

They have evidence temperature increased for a relatively short period of time and then stopped. Nothing more, nothing less. The rest is conjecture and theory and public policy should be decided by such nonsense.

Still looks like warming to me, Josh.

Yes, but they said that in the video, so what is your point?

"They have evidence temperature increased for a relatively short period of time and then stopped. Nothing more, nothing less. The rest is conjecture and theory and public policy should be decided by such nonsense."

No, they have evidence that the temperature inclined steeply around the same time as the industrial revolution.

Chris said...

They also have evidence that fluctuations occur over time.

Josh said...

Again, that graph is faulty as the sources of data do not remain constant. And now you're denying what even the global warming scientists admit: temperatures are not increasing.

Josh said...

"Yes, but they said that in the video, so what is your point?"

That if they can't determine why tree core temperatures do not line up, tree core temperatures are not reliable at all.

"No, they have evidence that the temperature inclined steeply around the same time as the industrial revolution."

They have evidence temperature increased over a short period of time that was well after the industrial revolution began.

No, I am agreeing with everyone else that fluctuations occur over time.

"They have evidence temperature increased over a short period of time that was well after the industrial revolution began."

No, it is quite clearly at the same time as the IR. Not only that, it is clear that all the little lines line up around that time, which is kind of disturbing, because it means that the process is narrowing somehow.

Chris said...

Before the IR, those lines are all over the place.

Josh said...

What, you're a scientist too?

Pfft.

Even the global warming scientists agree that warming prior to 20 - 30 years ago was due to solar cycles and that only the "abnormal" rise in temperatures recently can be attributed to an increased level of CO2 in the atmosphere.

At least, that's what they say to dispel theories that suggest the warming is caused by solar activity.

Oh, hey, your Loehle crap is wrong because it is not a global temperature graph. It is a graph only for Europe. The hockey stick is a global temperature graph.

You are being led by people who are cherry picking the data. That is a fact. It's really pathetic, but no surprise, because you are unable to critique Ron Paul.

Josh said...

You are being led by people who cherry pick the source of their data to produce an answer they want. That is all the hockey stick graph is.

I'm not saying public policy should depend on the Loehle graph, you however, base your whole perspective on global warming on a faulty graph designed by propagandists.

Nope. The hockey graphs was constructed by samples from all over the planet. It was also reconstructed using tree rings, stagalites, and bores. Each time, the same hockey stick shaped graph appeared.

"I'm not saying public policy should depend on the Loehle graph, you however, base your whole perspective on global warming on a faulty graph designed by propagandists."

Scientists are not propagandists. Anyone can reconstruct the hockey stick graph.

In fact, I think the Loehle graph is the type of data that once led European scientists that a new ice age was coming.

Conveniently removing any tree core data that doesn't match their expectations.

"Conveniently removing any tree core data that doesn't match their expectations."

The tree core data started going awry during the 1920s, which is the time when human produced Co2 was in moving into full gear. Moreover, the tree rings are just one way of measure global warming. Stagalites and bore holes show the same graph shape.

Josh said...

Really? Show me the graph that doesn't use tree cores at all, because i can't find it.

Watch the video again. They are shown there.
