The Carbon Tax LIE
Okay.
Keep this going.
Depends on how intelligent your polemic is.
The bastards in Ottawa
You get what you vote for. Congratulations, Mr. I'm-Not-A-Liberal!
get 30% raise and we get 2%.
Guess you'll have to vote NDP next time, eh?
The word seniors in Canada is a forbidden word plus forgotten by the greedy
Greedy conservatives and professional politicians!
Subject: The Carbon Tax
Oh goody! You've brought up some liberal issues, but are now ready to harp about a conservative issue! Great! Thanks for lying! You must be like the bastards in Ottawa! (more likely like the bastards in Washington, considering the political tactics you use)
This rumble is now moving across the country and will gain force.
Get, ready, to, RUMBLE!
Please don't let this happen any further in Canada. Canada emits only 2% of the world's supply of Greenhouse Gases and 52% of that comes from the Oil Sands Plants. Automotive emissions are less than 20% of the 48% balance of Canada's 2% of the World Outcome. Do the math, it's such an insignificant amount, it's a joke.
Listen asshole, we have seniors on social security who can barely pay for their basic necessities! If the conservatives in power continue to cut social services and refuse to increase spending for seniors, where do you think the money is going to come from? OOPS!
Our fuel prices are now $6.75 per Gallon, equivalent to $6.00 per gallon U.S. When Canadians realize what a jackpot the politicians can get us into by supporting a Carbon Tax, they will be out to get any politician that supports this cause. Dion, Campbell etc. will regret the day they devised this scheme. Americans are screaming at $4.00 a gallon. Our provincial and federal governments are ripping us off with high taxes on fuel now. This is such a cash cow they don't want to stop. Stop excessive taxation and giving our money away abroad. We need more support and tax relief for our senior's and baby boomers now retiring and trying to find a fixed income level they can exist upon after working all their lives and paying heavily into the system.
So much for seniors! You're too worried about YOUR bottom line to care about other people. That's it! You believe that every politician is a cynical bastard, but you've been duped into voting in the most cynical political party in Canada.
And I am not an Liberal or NDP supporter.
Obviously you're a conservative! While else would you be hypocritically bringing seniors living on social programs into your argument, while simultaneously supporting the conservatives and painting the entire political landscape as "selfish"? You sir, are the reason for the shift to cynicism, because you do not look at politics realistically. You care about your income more than you care about seniors.
Corruption and graft are inevitable phenomena of any type of political organization, be it left or right. One of the roles of constitutional or parliamentarian government is therefore to eliminate corruption when it occurs. The liberals should not have been voted out; instead, a new candidate should have been selected or the NDP voted in.
I am a Senior and a middle of the road conservative and we will be a majority in Canada for the next 20 years, so politicians, get smart and support us.
Do you really think conservative politicians are going to support you? Come on. Really. You are a middle class, conservative senior who has enough cash to complain about the proposed carbon tax, while simultaneously supporting a political party that supports deep cuts in social spending. Give your head a shake and study some logic.
Do some hard thinking about future and protect our seniors and all the population from the excessive costs we are facing now and in the future with more taxes.
Yeah, taxes are bad. They're horrible! They allow seniors, poor and rich, to live independently and with dignity after they retire!
Technology will fix the Oil Sands problem as they are working on a fix now to reduce that source in the future.
Maybe, but why should seniors suffer until a solution is found? Oh, I get it! You're a comfortable, relatively well-off senior who doesn't want to see his disposable income reduced so that poorer seniors can have their monthly incomes increased when oil prices increase the cost of living.
Why us with these programs at this time????
Us? You are selfish to the core.
Brian Morris, A concerned Sr. and loyal Canadian, Kelowna BC..
Unlike those icky Canadians who are not loyal!
Now, a carbon Tax.
Uh, oh!
Politicians have, in the past, used that bullshit phrase of
'cutting taxes' to get you to vote for them. Now, Stephan Dionne,
Why are only liberal politicians the target of your "Politicians have, in the past, used that old bullshit phrase of 'cutting taxes'' when conservatives are most famous for it? It seems you have some internal contradictions to work out.
has come up with a new wrinkle on that old lie : Tax your heating oil and anything else you burn to move your food and everything else that you have always had in your life... but, he'll lower your income taxes.
You don't agree with social spending for seniors?
CONSIDER THIS from a one person who has bothered to do the
homework:
Does that mean you have a teacher somewhere?
When a politician's lips move, I know he's probably lying.
LOL. Cynics are idiots.
Mr. Dion says his carbon tax will be revenue neutral. So, I went online and found a carbon calculator and keyed in the annual energy consumption for our household and learned we produce 17 tons of greenhouse gas. Fully 60% of this usage is for electricity which we use to heat our home.
I have already improved insulation in my walls and replaced my windows and doors; use the new 'twirley' lights and ensured that my appliances are all Energy Star products. In the past 20 years, these measures reduced my electricity usage from 24,000 Kw Hrs per year to 16,000 Kw Hrs per year last years. What is my reward for this improved efficiency? My power bill is unchanged from what it was 20 years ago. But, my power bill would attract a carbon tax of $104 in year one of Mr. Dion's plan and $ 416 in year four. My power bill would rise from $166 per month to $210 per month in year four.
Since I live on a fixed income consisting of CPP and Old Age Security, my income tax bill runs at less than $200 per year. So, for my household, Mr. Dion's 'revenue neutral' carbon tax will cost me $416 per year less income tax reductions of about $10 per year.
Revenue neutral? In a pig's eye! This is a tax on seniors living on fixed incomes. Well, Mr. Dion, you haven't got a snowball's chance in hell of ever getting my vote. I hope everyone else takes five minutes to run the same calculations I did and vote to send this joker to the political boneyard.
What about the rest of the population! HELLO! The carbon tax is not aimed solely at senior citizens! What you should be doing is lobbying the government for an increase in social spending for seniors. But wait! You are not a liberal or an NDPer! That would go against your politics!>>> So this is what I say to you sir: F*** OFF OR GET YOUR HEAD OF YOUR ASS AND START SUPPORTING POLITICIANS WHO SUPPORT SOCIAL SPENDING!

Bye.
DON'T BUY INTO THE CARBON TAX !
You can't buy a tax.
DON'T BELIEVE ANY POLITICIAN FROM ANY PARTY!
*Sigh* I hope you are not another one of those senior citizens who is simultaneously cynical about all politicians, but who receives a senior citizens' welfare check. I can only handle so much hypocrisy in one night before my head explodes!
Remember when they brought in the National Income Tax.
No, not at all, but reading a bunch of old people whinge hypocritically really does end any doubts I had about the truth of the proposition "with age comes wisdom".
They promised that it would remain in effect only until all of Canada's World War One Debt was repaid. Fooled us good.
They fool everyone!
Debt was repaid, but the tax never came off and will be with us for all eternity.
Social spending? Right? You are a senior, right? You do draw a welfare check, right? Let's see.
How about this Lie, Trudeau imposed a 5% tax on every litre of Gas in order to establish a National Oil Company called Petro Canada.
I see.
He swore that this tax would come off as soon as Petro Canada was up and running.
On the Bible? Or did he just curse?
And so it came to pass, Petro Canada was established, It was sold to private hands, the enormous cash windfall was frittered away AND HIS 5% (plus, plus) still adorns our pumps to this very day.
The humanity!
Now how is this for a con job? Take our BC Premier Campbell, PULEEZE. He truly believes that most British Columbians are brain dead. You will keep paying a yearly escalating carbon tax at the pump and you receive a reduction in your provincial Income Tax. The new Political Buzz Word is 'Revenue Neutral Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha. Should this not be called what it truly is. 'RECYCLING YOUR MONEY' Just Think Folks, Another Bureaucracy eating up our hard earned cash to administer a losers dream.
They must put all the money in their offshore bank accounts.
And Remember, once a government gets addicted to a Tax Grab,
Social spending? Are you for social spending?
and you let them get away with it, You have handed them a Carte Blanche ticket to impose new taxes, to keep raising existing ones and use it to buy your votes to boot. If we condone all this, than Premier Cambell is right in assuming that we are all BRAIN DEAD in BC.
That, or you simply vote for a conservo in the next election who will cut social spending and make it harder for senior citizens to live.
Walt Grochmal
F*** you.

In Canada, pension is paid from CPP which is separate from any taxes. How much thats paid out from CPP relies on the government stated inflation rate. Its a socialized retirement fund, and has nothing to do with carbon taxes or gas taxes.
I only reason I wouldn't like the carbon tax is because I do not understand it. I do not understand how it would be implemented and thats probably because I haven't read into. But any excuse to lower income tax makes me happy.
I see. But if the rate paid out does not stay with the cost of living, where do you think the shortfall would come from? Taxes.
The carbon tax is suppose to reduce the amount of fossil fuels used in one year by taxing fossil fuels. People don't want to pay taxes, so they'll cut all wasteful spending on gasoline if the tax were implemented. Premier Campbell's plan, and I like this plan a lot, is to reduce income tax for everyone when he were to implement the carbon tax. In this way, citizens would still be paying the same in taxes if they used the maximum amount of fuel in relation to the percentage decrease in income taxes, which I'm sure the government would calculate. Combine this with the fact that Campbell seems to be saying that any excess tax collected from taxing gas would be returned to tax payers and you have a fairly well-thought-out-system.
However, senior citizens are, as you said, living on fixed incomes and pay very little income tax. The reduction in income is therefore irrelevant to them and thus the "carbon tax" becomes an additional tax, instead of a just a shift in what is taxed, like for the rest of the population.
The problem I have with the writers of those letters is their political affiliation. If the cost of gas continues to increase, and the cost of living continues to increase, then seniors living on fixed incomes will need more funds, I.E. social spending. PCers are against this, just as they are against the carbon tax, irrationally.
The word "seniors" is such a non-word in parliament, because conservatives don't want to increase social spending. That's why. And then you hear the same people who voted them in complaining! LOL.
Instead of rallying for exemption status for seniors, they rally against the tax itself. They really don't care about "seniors", or they would be calling for limited tax payments to seniors to counterbalance the increase in living. They are not.
As mentioned earlier, pension payouts are adjusted for inflation to keep pace with the cost of living.
Of course, you'd have to trust government calculation of inflation.
The feds are probably worried about a recession alongside babyboomers retiring and taking withdrawals out from CPP. They're probably worried over whether or not they'll have enough to payout the current entitlements, let alone increase social spending.
Well, they're definitely not going to have enough if they are unwilling to reintroduce the funds they cut.
The payments are adjusted in relation to the inflation rate, yes, but when the inflation becomes higher, the time between the inflation rate rising and the government increasing payments might not be fast enough.
Both programs are fixed in the sense that the amount paid out is relative to the value of goods in real dollars. Hence, if any one commodity's or product's real price were to increase significantly it would lower the overall spending power of the total money paid out. For example, if gas had a real price of 89 cents per liter in 1987 dollars, but it increased to a dollar thirty, then that means the cost of gas, which is a necessity, has increased within the fixed amount of money paid out, but not necessarily in relation to inflation.
